Contributor Bio: Biegler, Lorenz T Lorenz T. Biegler is the Bayer Professor of Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He has authored or coauthored over 200 journal articles and two books. His research interests lie in the field of computer-aided process engineering, including flowsheet optimization, optimization of systems of differential and algebraic equations, reactor network synthesis and algorithms for constrained, nonlinear process control. Contributor Bio: Conn, Andrew R Andrew R. Conn is a research staff member at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY. In 1994 he was (with N. I. M. Gould and Ph. L. Toint) a joint recipient of the Beale/Orchard-Hays Prize for Computational Excellence in Mathematical Programming and with Chandu Visweswariah he received an IBM Corporate Award in 2002 for contributions to circuit tuning. Currently his major application projects are in the petroleum industry.
