E. P. Goldschmidt (1887–1954) was a prominent bookseller and scholar well known for his research on early printing and the spread of humanist ideas in Europe. First published in 1955, this highly readable volume originated in the proofs for Goldschmidt's inaugural lecture series as Sandars Reader in Bibliography at Cambridge.
