Advice to the Players
Bruce Bonafede
Greeted by unanimous acclaim when first produced at Actors Theatre of Louisville's Shorts Festival in 1984, and again as the Heideman Award-winner at the Humana Festival of New American Plays in 1985, this play was published in Literary Cavalcade magazine and included in the anthology Best Short Plays-1986 (edited by Ramon Delgado). Since then it has seen dozens of productions nationwide by theater festivals, community groups, and student productions. A fictionalized account of a true event, the play tells the story of two celebrated black South African actors who have traveled to America to perform but are caught up in the world's boycott of their country's apartheid system - a system they have struggled all their lives to overcome.
