Daphne Sax is a normal girl, dealing with normal grief. Newly orphaned at the age of twenty-five, she thought she'd dealt with the craziest things life had to offer. One glimpse of a castle in the middle of her hometown has convinced her otherwise. Barring the possibility that she's lost her mind-which isn't seeming all that far off anymore-she's about to get sucked into something much bigger than she could have ever dreamed.

King Arthur was supposed to be a legend, not a legacy to live up to, or an ancestor to follow. But here she is, trying to live up to the long-ago forgotten king. Lucky for her, she not only gets to be inducted into a secret club of fighters, but she also gets to do it while mourning her family, attempting to make friends with some surly new people, nursing an unplanned crush, and trying not to get killed. Oh, and keeping blood off her dog.

It's certain to be a banner year for Daphne, but whether it's a banner of victory, or a white flag of defeat remains to be seen.

Legends of Avalon: Merlin is the first book in a trilogy of urban fantasy stories. Although it is written with an adult audience in mind, it's a clean read, with PG-13 violence, and clean romance.
