Set in the nineties, and featuring the persepctives of two teenagers Renee and Rory, each deal with their dysfunctional families and their pasts. Their inner turmoil and intertwining stories tie into the main plot together, and both experience things they will never forget. Rory's father is an abusive alcoholic and his older brother abandoned him four years prior. Renee's mother is dead, and her aunt is less than sympathetic. Their ways of coping put them at risk. They each want to better their lives, but can they first move past their own demons?
