Contributor Bio:  Kasper, Christine Christine E. Kasper, PhD, RN, FAAN, is Professor and Senior Research Scientist at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Nursing Services, Washington, DC; Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, MD; and Member of the Governor's Committee on Spinal Cord Injury Research in Maryland. Dr. Kasper has held faculty positions at the schools of nursing and medicine, UCLA, was Research Chair at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, has directed doctoral programs at Johns Hopkins and the USUHS, and has served as Visiting Scientist at NIH National Institute on Aging. She is founding editor of "Biologic Research in Nursing". She has received numerous awards for outstanding research and teaching and is an invited Fellow of the ACSM. Dr. Kasper has been PI on over 20 funded research projects and has been Co-PI on many others. She has published over 40 refereed journal articles and more than 20 book chapters, including 7 chapters in recent ARNR volumes. Contributor Bio:  Conley, Yvette Yvette P. Conley, PhD, is Professor and Vice Chair, Research in Health Promotion and Development, University of Pittsburgh. She developed and teaches Advanced Topics in Human Genetics, among other courses. Dr. Conley has conducted research on traumatic brain injury and genetics and is presently conducting studies on patient outcomes after traumatic brain injury, stroke, and therapeutic interventions for cancer, in addition to genomic studies on age-related macular degeneration. She is widely published and has authored or co-authored more than 75 articles in peer-reviewed publications.
