Biographical Note: Storyteller and librarian Ken Setterington was born in Toronto. He worked with CUSO in Nigeria for two years and now is the Children and Youth Advocate for Toronto Library Services. He was honored by the Association of Canadian Publishers as the Outstanding Public Librarian for the year 2000. "The Snow Queen" is his first book. Nelly and Ernst Hofer learned the folk art of "scherenschnitt" in their native Switzerland. They live on a dairy farm in Perth County, Ontario with their two children. Contributor Bio: Andersen, Hans Christian Hans Christian Andersen was a Danish fairy tale writer and poet who is most noted for his Fairy Tales, including the enduring children's stories "The Snow Queen," "The Little Mermaid," "Thumbelina," and "The Ugy Duckling." Through his youth Andersen worked as a weaver's apprentice and actor before turning to writing. Andersen's works have been translated into more than 150 languages and have inspired countless films, plays, and ballets. Although Andersen died in 1875, the anniversary of his birthday (June 2) continues to celebrated each year as International Children's Book Day. Contributor Bio: Setterington, Ken Ken Setterington is a retired librarian, a storyteller, an author and a children's-book reviewer. He was named the first Children and Youth Advocate for Library Services for the Toronto Public Library. He received the title Librarian of the Year from the Ontario Library Association and won the prestigious Toronto Arts Award for Writing and Publishing. An active storyteller, he has published retellings of The Snow Queen and The Wild Swans. He is the author of the picture book Mom and Mum are Getting Married! He lives with his partner in Toronto.
