From the opening lines of the Hebrew Bible to the last book of the canon of the Christian church, the Sabbath features prominently as a time of rest, fellowship for believers, and particularly worship of God, reminding humanity of His work of creation and redemption and touching on other important themes of Scripture.




During the last two decades, Jewish and Christian scholars, theologians, historians, and practitioners have demonstrated renewed interest in the Sabbath. This two-volume set is a scholarly contribution to the discussion of the Sabbath from a Seventh-day Adventist perspective. Each volume explores the biblical concept and theology of the Sabbath and implications for Christians in the twenty-first century.




Authors from around the world have contributed to each volume, providing diversity of perspective to the central Sabbath theme. Volume 1 covers the exegesis of key Old Testament passages on the Sabbath and examines the Sabbath theology found in major sections of the Hebrew Bible and the Jewish literature of the Intertestamental period (Second Temple period).
