The time is the early 1950s and Gary leaves home in the Seychelles to come to Kenya to search for his missing father who had once lived there. But this is the time of the Mau Mau uprising and Kenya had been placed in a state of emergency. All men of eighteen or older were automatically drafted into the Kenya Police Regiment and Gary found himself being trained for and then assigned to protecting farmers around Nairobi and the Rift Valley for six months. His service takes him deep into Mau Mau territory as he fights to protect the white farming families of East Africa. Released from service, he resumes the search for his father around the coastal province where he meets the local tribes and receives help from the most unlikely people.
