Along the way, Zitkála-Sa tells the story of a talented girl who leaves her reservation to start a new school, María Amparo Ruiz de Burton describes a brave young woman who travels across the country in a covered wagon, and Hussein introduces us to a boy who refuses to let his blindness stop him.
