Hope Masterton Waddell
This 1863 account of Waddell's missionary work in Jamaica and Calabar is an important social history source. He witnessed the slave revolt and the aftermath of the abolition of slavery in Jamaica. Moving to Nigeria in 1846, his narrative is one of the best European accounts of pre-colonial Africa.
