Francis Parkman
Francis Parkman (1823–93), a well-known historian of colonial North America, is still admired for his literary style. This famous early work (1847–9), reissued here in its revised sixth edition (1878), describes Parkman's adventurous journey from St Louis to the Rocky Mountains and his interactions with the Oglala Sioux.
