Leslie Stephen
Leslie Stephen (1832–1904), the English author and literary critic, began researching what he later called his 'utilitarian bog' in the late 1870s, though this three-volume examination of English utilitarianism was not published until 1900. Volume 3 examines John Stuart Mill (1806–73), who moved the philosophy in new directions.
