A Scottish physician, Anthony Todd Thomson (1778–1849), translated and edited this two-volume 1846 study of miracles in ancient times by French intellectual Anne-Joseph-Eusèbe Baconnière de Salverte (1771–1839), originally published in 1829. Volume 2 looks at the role of drugs and poisons in magic.
