William Gell
Classical topographer Sir William Gell (1777–1836) wrote many standard treatises, including his 1804 Topography of Troy (also reissued in this series). This 1817 survey of routes through the Peloponnese, and their natural and archaeological landmarks, sheds light on contemporary Greece and the practicalities of early topographical study.
