Berthold Litzmann (1857–1926) gives here a sympathetic portrait of Clara Schumann (1819–96), celebrated concert pianist, teacher, composer, friend of Brahms and wife of Robert Schumann. This two-volume English translation by Grace Hadow (1875–1940), an abridged version of the German fourth edition, was first published in 1913.
