Thunder Snow was written with concern for the conditions of life and mind during the Civil War, the most turbulent period in U. S. history. It is both historical fact and fiction. It is an effort to try to understand how such a disaster could possibly have happened in a civilized nation. The usual reasons are specified, but how many of them are truly pertinent, when you consider the huge amount of destruction and grief experienced by both sides. Both sides were wrong, but both sides considered themselves right. Each side was strong in their conviction that they were right and that God supported them. Both groups referred to the same God. The supernatural has a role in the story, but has few answers. If this book makes you think, it is a success. That is why it was written.
