Face of the Enemy
William Russell
Face of the Enemy focuses on the lives of two antagonists in the Korean War - a Red Chinese line officer and an American army combat reporter. The story follows the two from the time both enter the Korean War zone until they meet in a climatic confrontation atop an abandoned but shell-torn hilltop on the frontline. Along the way, their lives become entangled with several other characters including a Communist political commissar who insists on following the Red doctrine, but wavers at the end, and a beautiful Korean girl who must make a heartfelt decision. In this novel, the author presents both sides of the battle line, a seldom-used technique in telling a war story.
