This book covers the period from February 1941 to November 1945. It began with the call-up of my 28th National Guard Division for federal service. It covers our training, maneuvers, barracks life, the things we did, the girls we met and the troubles we got into. As our army grew I was cadred to the Tank Destroyers. It was good for me and I advanced through the ranks. Eventually assignes to 2nd Army HQ in Memphis, I met and courted a young lady whom I married. All good things come to an end as I was assigned back to the infantry. First to the 104th Division in Colorado which provided us a wonderful honeymoon in the picturesque surroundings of Colorado Springs. Reassigned to the 106th Division in Indiana and shipment overseas. My story covers the troopship to England, then across the channel to the battlefront in Belgium-Germany. The Battle of the Bulge, the assult into the Phineland and finally the St. Nazaire pocket. After that, months of waiting for a troopship home. Finally back to the U. S. A. but only after passing through a North Atlantic Hurricane. Included are many of the sketches I drew during the years of my service.
