Much of the background draws upon the many years of author experience dealing with exotic wildlife both in, and out, of Africa. A cold-blooded unscrupulous killer will do anything to continue an accustomed life-style. American and Russian authorities confront the murderer as the nuclear powered vessel ice-breaks a path to the pole. The scientific sub-plot will take the reader by surprise, as will the ending.
