Sean Cassidy is the youngest of five children in a well-to-do family living the American dream in a small town in Connecticut. The tranquility of the family is rocked when June, the oldest daughter becomes pregnant. Sean?s father, a strict disciplinarian and a demanding taskmaster, relies on drinking to conceal his pain. Soon drinking becomes more than a crutch and his battles with alcohol lead to family discord and eventually family crisis. Sean finds comfort, throughout his father?s struggles, in sports, in the close relationship with his sisters, and in the love of his college sweetheart. When that relationship ends, Sean embarks on a personal search for life?s meaning with his best friend, Baxter, as they leave the quiet safety of their small town and head for the big city of Boston. They discover a world unlike anything they could imagine, filled with adventure, danger, promiscuity, and promise. The story deals with the different paths they take as they battle their desires and their demons to find a direction and a purpose in life. The answers come with many surprises.
