While researching the history of Hawaii, author Lincoln Yamashita realized that the role of the warrior in Hawaiian history had not been properly documented. To provide a complete and accurate portrait of the warrior, he determined that it was essential to document the role of Warrior Spirit, the legacy of Hawaiian culture, and the history of the Hawaiian nation. Many of the stories of the Hawaiian warriors have been passed down from generation to generation through oral storytelling. Yamashita has gathered the historical stories of the great warriors into this single volume. Warriors: Pu' Ali Koa documents a history that is vital to the cultural fabric of the forty-ninth state. For example, the legacy of the Hawaii Army National Guard began with the first Polynesians who originated in Southeast Asia.
