From 1878 to 1903, he edited The Jewish Messenger, a weekly publication devoted to Jewish communal affairs. Step by Step is a fictionalized biography of the young Moses Mendelssohn (1729-1786), a German Jewish philosopher referred to as the father of Reform Judaism
