As Vince rounded a bend in the trail he looked for something to use to fill the ditch in front of him. His wheelchair would not cross it. Tom was nowhere in sight. When he thought he had gathered enough branches and stones from the edge of the trail and placed them in the ditch, he tried to cross. His wheelchair slipped off of the debris and he did not have the strength in his one arm to straighten it, so it overturned. He did not panic. Tom would be by soon. He heard his name called, it couldn't be Tom yet. He was not startled; it was as if he expected it.
?What do you want??
?Vince, you must come with me,? the voice replied. Vince did not think of questioning this order he just did not know how to go about it since his chair was on its side and the harness held him in an impossible position.
Even if the wheelchair were upright he would not be able to follow since it appeared he would have to go up a steep hill. Before he had a chance to ask how he was to go about the task of following, the voice told him to get up and walk away with him and he would soon understand.
?Just get up and walk.? The voice said.
Vince effortlessly unbuckled his harness, slid out from the overturned wheelchair, and got up and walked. It was that easy. Even after fourteen years.
