Tubby is a young schoolboy who succeeds at nothing. His depression has made him over eat and when he loses a basketball game he wants to hide. His grandfather who was a champion basketball player in his youth gives Tubby his secret, a pair of magic socks. Tubby believes him when Grandpa shows him how to score baskets in his ring at home. Tubby regains confidence and practices all day as Grandpa shows him. Now he becomes a star because of the magic socks he wears. When his pet dog chews his socks to pieces Tubby reverts back to his old form. Grandpa buys a new pair and has the dog chew them. He tells Tubby he has repaired his socks and Tubby becomes a star again. On the eve of the finals Kevin who is jealous of Tubby steals his socks and again Tubby drops into depression. Grandpa reveals that the socks never were magic and Tubby';s success was all in his head. Understanding anyone can anything they want to if they try, Tubby and his team win the championship
