The Abigail Witches: Magic, Romance and a Fight to Save Land in an Australian Setting
John Stackhouse
A fantasy of magic, romance, adventure - and the struggle to invoke Australian Aboriginal first-people land rights. The community wants to preserve the old forest and sacred places of a National Park from an unscrupulous developer. The protagonist is Jennifer Abigail Carroll, a white witch, who inherited the centuries-old Abigail magic, and works with the Wise Aunties of the local Aboriginal people. By day she is a suburban librarian; at night instead of a broom, Jennifer rides an enchanted leafblower as her own tiny jet on her Neighbourhood Witch patrols. Her son-in-law, Bill Stone, a rising TV news producer, fights off violence to save the park. The story climaxes in an arsonist setting a bushfire and attempting to burn at the stake the local mayor, Elizabeth. Bill and his pregnant wife Amanda rescue the mayor just in time for both Mayor Elizabeth and the arrival of Amanda's baby.
