"The English Woman in Egypt: Letters from Cairo" is a 1836 work by E. W. Lane. Following the success of his previous work "The Natural History of Aleppo" (1756), Lane travelled to Egypt again to do further research for another book. However, the fact that he was a man prevented him from viewing all aspects of society. To gain a complete view of his subject, he invited his sister to the country. The result was this volume, which delves into the side of life he was not privy to: the life of women.
