It is the cold, bleak winter of 1920 when Joe, a widower of two years, who is a horse-patrol officer on the Rabbit Proof Fence on the Queensland-New South Wales border, discovers in the high country, a large bare footprint in the muddy ground, but it is twice the size of his booted foot and half as wide again. Over the decades there have been hundreds of reported sightings by reliable witnesses of an eight-foot tall creature covered all over in hair, and it had been called a Yowie. At the western end of the 12 mile Rabbit Proof Fence Joe has to maintain, which is through State Forest and virgin rainforest, there is a 3,400 foot mountain he has to patrol to the peak once a week. He often feels eyes upon him near the summit but could never find the reason for the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end, or the reason for his disquiet. There are many exciting adventures and events in their lives not included in the synopsis, and will keep the reader sitting on the edge of their seat, and holding their attention to the last page.
