In his preface of the book JOSEPHUS, author Norman Bentwich says that "Josephus hardly merits a place on his own account in a series of Jewish Worthies, but that the worth of his work recommends him to the attention of the Jewish people." Even though author Bentwich has a sometimes low opinion of TITUS FLAVIUS JOSEPHUS, he strongly states that we are indebted to Josephus for a huge amount of knowledge of the first century.
