Nossa família Pinel começou com Scipion Pinel nascido em 1660 em Saint-Paul-Cap-de-Joux, na França. Scipion era o bisavô de Philippe Pinel, o psiquiatra encarregado dos Hospitais Bicêtre e Saltpêtrière 1792-1826, em Paris Seu filho Charles Pinel mudou para o Brasil em 1830 e se casou com Marie Catherine Rime, que emigrou da Suíça para o Brasil com sua família em 1819. Seus descendentes são numerosos e ainda forte no Brasil.
