As the nation?s largest cash-assistance program for workers with disabilities, DI provides benefits to eligible individuals under Title II of the Social Security Act. An individual is eligible to receive DI benefits if he or she has a medically determinable physical or mental impairment that (1) has lasted (or is expected to last) at least 1 year or is expected to result in death and (2) prevents the individual from engaging in SGA.
