What is a mask? It's the filter we put on in civilized society in order to peacefully coexist with other human beings. It's useful and necessary. But for some, a mask is much more. Masks can become a survival tool. Masks are used to hide loneliness, failure, anger, shame, or grief. Masks can also isolate a person from others because they don't let people know the real us. Masks can even put distance between us and our heavenly Father. Not because God has moved farther from us, but because by using masks we push ourselves away from Him. Facing alone the dark corridors of unrelieved depression is a debilitating experience. Rev. Buethe understands those dark feelings. With Masks he offers help to not just those feeling hopeless but to anyone feeling unequal to the task of dealing with life's challenges. Throughout the Bible, God's people needed help to get through difficult times. Even Christ was aided by angels after his forty days in the wilderness.
