In the first volume is an account of a soldier turned chaplain. The story is about a young soldier, Randolph Harrison McKim, who goes to war and performs his soldierly duty, only to realize a call to minister to the Spiritual needs of his fellow men. Thus, in the midst of war he trades his gun for a Bible. The story is also about his faithful, but blind, horse, Charlie. In the second volume there are 12 random sermons of the Rev. Dr. McKim.
