Nine year old David has to come to terms with the accidental death of his father. He is helped by a very special friend, Jazz, who appears unexpectedly from a small fishing trophy that his father won and his mother has included in a box of memories. Jazz's arrival is quite spectacular and amazing - he explains that he is on a mission to help David to cope with the changes that are so difficult for him. Jazz soon proves to be a funny, kind and wise character who will not leave until the time is right for David. By then, Jazz's protégée has made a new friend, faced his enemies at school and found ways to enjoy his new and changing circumstances. Dealing with exceptional and emotional matters, the story is moving but never hopeless or far from the gentle, uplifting humour of Jazz - someone we should all meet at some stage in life.
