Operations in Snow and Extreme Cold United States War Department

"Military operations conducted under conditions of snow and extreme cold follow the same basic principles as do operations under other conditions. The differences lie in the tactical and logistical limitations imposed by the adverse climatic conditions and in the special equipment, training, and procedures necessary to overcome these limitations. Contents of this field manual include: rations and their preparation; clothing; shelter and heat; snowshoes; skiing; oversnow vehicles; animal transport; equipment; special care of weapons and equipment; and tactical operations. Appendixes include information on cold weather field engineering expedients and skiing."
