Located just north of the Mason-Dixon Line in southern York County, New Freedom quickly developed into a thriving industrial town because it was situated on the major north-south railroad route that linked Harrisburg with Baltimore, Maryland. The local industries included a wire cloth factory, a cannery, several sewing factories, and two plastics manufacturers. Due to its beautiful rural setting, New Freedom was also home to the Summit Grove Campground, a religious retreat established by the Methodist Church in 1872. Around New Freedom showcases this peaceful residential community that is actively involved in preserving its proud heritage.
