What animal is a Tenrec? Isn't Tenrec a unique name for an animal?



A Tenrec is a mammal that's mostly found in the island of Madagascar. If you've seen the movie Madagascar, then you already know that it's filled with many different types of animals. To date, however, the Tenrec has not made its appearance in the movie yet.



The Lowland Streaked Tenrec looks like different types of animals. Even though it's rare, you will probably find its appearance familiar. The hedgehog is a more popular type of animal - have you seen one of those? Because if you have, the Lowland Streaked Tenrec looks something like it because they both have pointed spikes all over their bodies.



The Lowland Streaked Tenrec actually looks like a mouse, too - not exactly, but they do look somewhat alike (they are related, but not that close - like distant relatives, so to speak).



Aside from being a unique-looking animal, you will also be amazed at this animal's behavior. Unlike other types of animals that are solely land dwellers, water dwellers, tree dwellers, or underground dwellers, the Lowland Streaked Tenrec can be all of those things.



You can find them on land, but they are not afraid of wading in shallow waters, either. While some species live in trees, there are also those that dig tunnels underground and live there.
