Have you heard of an animal called the Hispaniolan Solenodon? Isn't a long name for an animal?

The Hispaniolan Solenodon is also called the Dominican Solenodon. It's a species of solenodon which looks very similar to shrews, but although both solenodons and shrews look like rats, they are not related to rats at all because they are not rodents.

Since this species of animal is only found on the island of Hispaniola, it's been named the Hispaniolan Solenodon.

An adult Hispaniolan Solenodon measures about 19 to 28 inches - but this measurement includes its tail. Like rats, they also have long tails, which can measure about eight to ten inches. Their bodies are therefore almost as long as their tails.

A fully grown adult Hispaniolan Solenodon can be quite heavy. It can weigh about two pounds - an adult person can easily carry it, but a child will have some trouble carrying such weight.
