The Institute of Science and Technology depends on the talents of bright and ambitious young men to develop relationships with financially successful individuals, wealthy corporations, and prosperous governments that will bring them recognition and enormous financial gain. Students and faculty operate in a closed environment and are highly trained to comply with Institute rules and to be unquestionably loyal. Most important, they are well paid for their efforts. Until now, there were no complaints; but until now, no one had been murdered. Detective Kate Chandler from the local police department heads the investigation. While she encounters some resistance from students and faculty alike, she also benefits from the assistance of an old friend. As they re-kindle a romance, suspects abound and danger grows. They must work together, if they can, to solve the case and protect not just the Institute but the entire world.
