On a moonless night in August when the sea trout are ready to run, a man brings his new girlfriend to the remote family cabin on the cliffs, where he has come for the fly-fishing since he was a boy. But she's not the only woman he has brought here, or indeed the last. Jez Butterworth?s The River asks when we find each other, are we trying to recapture someone we once lost?

The River premiered at London?s Royal Court Theatre in 2012. It will make its US premiere in October 2014, with a Broadway production starring Hugh Jackman.
