The Diary of a Nobody
Weedon Grossmith George Grossmith
Grossmith was an English writer, painter, actor and playwright. He wrote Diary of a Nobody in 1892. This comic novel first appeared in serial form in 1888 in the magazine Punch. Charles Pooter was a lower class city clerk who kept this diary. Pooter's gaffes and self-importance provide many humorous incidents. The word Pooterism has come to mean one who takes himself too seriously.
