Frances Herve was a French born British artist and travel writer. He traveled to Levant in 1833 and was commissioned by General Church to produce a series of portraits of leaders of the Greek War for independence. He began writing books and sketching his travels. In this 1842 volume Herve attempts to tell the reader about all that is useful and interesting in Paris. He details the manners and customs of the Parisians. Herve gives instructions for the reader on the economy and advice for a stranger on the proper general proceedings for interacting with the French.
