Grandma's Just Not Herself
Josie Aleardi Richards
Natalie is a 9-year-old girl who loves her grandmother very much. When she visits her in the nursing home, Natalie realizes that grandma is just not herself that day. Learning that her grandmother has Alzheimer's disease confuses Natalie. She recalls how visits with grandma used to be when grandma was herself. Natalie dreads another visit; however, her second visit ends up being a memorable one for everybody. This picture book will help children understand how Alzheimer's can affect their grandparents and what they can do to be loving and supportive grandchildren. About the Author: Josie Aleardi Richards completed this book in loving memory of her mother, Angeline Aleardi, who suffered from Alzheimer's. She wants to touch hearts with this book, as her mother touched hers. She is in the process of writing more children's books and is constantly inspired by her bright, energetic students at Oakbrook Elementary. Richards lives in Sterling Heights, Michigan, with her husband, Bob. They have three wonderful children, Natalie, Robby, and Nick. About the Illustrator: Lauri Rowland resides in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, with her four children, Malauri, Kaylynn, Jillian and Mitchell. She is a registered nurse at a local hospital. Rowland volunteers at the school where Richards teaches and her younger children attend. The author approached Rowland with her dream of writing this story and asked if she would illustrate the book.
