The surgical procedure in orthopedics wherein the articular surface of a musculoskeletal joint is replaced or realigned is termed as arthroplasty. Some of the major types of procedures in arthroplasty are joint replacement, resurfacing arthroplasty and resectional arthroplasty. Joint replacement involves replacing a joint or joint surface with a prosthesis through surgery. A single or both bone surfaces are shaved off and replaced by a metal covering in resurfacing arthroplasty. Resectional arthroplasty seeks to remove bone and joint surface, and join the remaining ends. There are also techniques and procedures which fall under the umbrella of arthroplasty such as silicone replacement arthroplasty, mold arthroplasty and osteotomy. This book unfolds the innovative aspects of arthroplasty which will be crucial for the progress of this field in the future. Also included herein is a detailed explanation of the biomechnics and clinical techniques in the field of arthroplasty. This book will help the readers in keeping pace with the rapid changes in this field.
