A young bunny, Esther, decides to leave the safety of her home and see the world. She narrowly escapes a dog as she dives through a hole in a stable wall. Frightened, she stays in the stable for several days. She sees a human baby born and gets a close-up look. As the baby grows up, their lives intersect many times. She never knows his name, but his life becomes very important to her. Oftentimes, she doesn't understand what is happening. Still, she tries to tell the story of what she has seen.
