Michael is a young African American male facing a myriad of cultural problems that many other men like him face. During his childhood, he has been homeless, sleeping hungry on the streets and living in bad neighborhoods. His mother does her best, and his father is not in the picture, having been murdered when Michael was six months old. At one point, the idea of joining a street gang seems like the best option to fix Michael's financial struggles, but he listens to his mother. The most important thing to her is that Michael goes to school. School gives Michael the opportunity to interact with other kids and forget about the problems at home. He even gains hope and the strength-but his struggles aren't over yet. There are times in life when a person hits rock bottom. Michael is living proof, but his story is also one of resilience and focus. Raised by a single parent, he faces challenges head on and becomes an unlikely hero to himself, his mother, and the youth of his neighborhood. Based on a true story, Oilfield Heart shows what happens when one young man defies all odds and fights for a bright future.
