Printed in color. North Korea is estimated to have up to 70 active submarines of various sizes. There have been numerous reports in the press that North Korea is currently building a larger ballistic missile submarine capable of launching 3 ballistic missiles. Analysts believe the North Koreans are refitting a Project 633 class Soviet diesel electric submarine, "Romeo" class hull by stretching the hull to accommodate the three missiles. Very little is known about the submarine, however we assume it will not include nuclear-power propulsion. Although the specs are closely held secrets, there were some clues. Anyway, this is what we think they will look like when they are finally built.
