Across America in our Model T is the fascinating story of the Jeffery family's epic journey across the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 1920. At a time when there were few paved roads and fewer amenities, Eulice and Alta Jeffery, my great-grandparents, and their two teen-age daughters, embarked on a nine month long, 16,000 mile cross country trip in a 1920 Ford Model T. Leaving their home in Sunnyside, Washington, they travelled south to Mexico, then across the Southwest desert and Great Plains to New York, where both were born and raised. They spent four months visiting family and friends, with a brief trip to Canada. In 1921 they returned to Washington, following in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark. Eulice Jeffery, an avid photographer, took over 200 photographs, and nearly half are reproduced in this book, providing a rare look at travel by automobile in early 20th century America.
