The Gardener
Rabindranath Tagore
The Gardener is a book of prose that lays bare the beauty of love, life, and everything in between. The book was originally written in Bengali, the native tongue of Rabindranath Tagore, and was later translated to English. The book talks of various things, whether it be a thirst for knowledge, or wanderlust, or just the description of beauty found in nature. In this book, more than eighty different prose forms, each of which are set in a different mood, speak to a different emotion and are made relatable to the reader. On of the poems in this book describes the desperate desire of a servant, pleading with the queen to be allowed to throw down his arms so as to become a gardener. In yet another poem, one can feel the frustrated restlessness of a wanderer by heart, who desperately wants to travel to the farthest end of the world.
