This volume looks at the development of social archaeology in Peru over the last century. The author lays aside scientific advances in archaeological interpretation, and highlights the influence of economic, social and political factors in how archaeology, as a discipline, has changed in Peru. The chapters reflect on different theories on Peru's history during the 20th century, the use of Peruvian history as an instrument of ideology, on political movements, national agendas and influential figures, with much emphasis placed on the work of Luis G Lumbreras, identifying four major stages in the development of sociological discussions stemming from archaeology correlating with one or more economic, social and political events.
